Britax Boulevard CS Click & Safe Convertible Car Seat, Davenport Review

Overall, this is an excellent car seat and we're glad we chose it. We chose Britax because they continue to be a leader in child safety (we did considerable research). And we chose this specific model because of the superior side impact protection. However, I don't find the Click & Safe (CS) feature of this seat worth the extra money over the standard model. An overview of pros and cons as I see them:

PROS
* Superior protection/safety
* Well designed seat
* Easy installation - the directions are attached to the seat so you can't lose them and are easy to follow
* Durable fabric used
* Decent padding for child's comfort
* Strap height very easy to adjust as child grows
* Easy to buckle and unbuckle - easy in/out for the child
* The cowmooflage pattern is pretty cool (and works for both boys and girls)

CONS
* CS feature doesn't seem accurate - this is the biggest con. After buckling the child in, you pull the strap to create the right amount of tension on the 5-point harness. The CS feature is supposed to click when you have the straps tight enough. However, our seat clicks while there is still too much give (over an inch) in the shoulder straps, and is even less accurate when she's wearing a winter coat. Straps should be snug (not tight) to the body. If we were to stop when the seat clicked, the straps would be too loose. In my opinion, the CS feature is not worth the extra money.
* The straps sometimes get twisted in the harness buckle and it takes a couple minutes to straighten them out (not a big issue).
* Price is higher than a lot of competing brands, but Britax is a leader in safety.

I did extensive research on carseats prior to purchasing this one. It is more expensive than most other carseats but as you know you get what you pay for. All carseats are required to meet certain federal standards but I chose this one because of the Britax repuatation, their website and other customer reviews on this site. The carseat is rather large and heavy. We have a honda odyssey and this fits absolutely PERFECT in both the bucket seats. We have also had to use this in our tiny Honda Civic. It fit in the middle just fine. You would not be able to put this behind the seats in the Civic, so if you have more than one child and a smaller car, you will need a smaller seat if you are using this as rear facing. Forward facing would not be a problem. The BEST feature about this carseat is how long you can use it rear facing. That was very important to us. You can use this much longer than other seats rearfacing. The seat is VERY easy to install and we were able to get an extremely tight fit. The seat belt clips on the side stop the seat from tilting. We had problems with our daughters other carseat doing that and had to reinstall all the time to get it straight again. The straps are very nice and do not get tangled. Its a great seat and we are looking forward to getting much use out of it. Its comfortable and sturdy. We have had this seat for almost 3 months now and I am glad to have spent the extra $$ for this one. One thing I would do before you purchase ANY carseat is check out compatibility with your car at [...]
Also, always take your seat to a certified inspection center where they will ensure its installed properly for FREE. 90% of people do NOT have their seats installed correctly and/or do not put their children in the seat properly. This is the most important "item" (if I can say it like that) in your vehicle...do it right!! Good LUCK. I know it wore me out looking for the right seat. Our daughter is 11 months old and weighs 17 pounds.

An Easy-to-Adjust Design That Grows with Your Baby

I just bought this car seat yesterday. My car is small as it is a Honda Civic LX 4 door Sedan. It fits beautifully. Granted I am only 5'3 so I don't need much room but my seat can go back a bit if needed, plus I recline my seat so it would still work for a tall person. It actually takes up less room then my infant carrier. I don't install my car seats until after I have a police officer or fire fighter install them for me first. It took him 5 mins literally. Now I know if I need to swap cars at some point how to do it myself in no time. I am just not a fan of trying to do it myself and getting frustrated. So since they do them all the time they can show me much faster how to do it. I recommend this car seat for anyone that wants their child to be super safe yet comfortable. My son would be kind of fussy in his infant carrier and it was a good one. With The advocate he falls asleep immediately and doesn't wake up for a while. It may be pricey but shop around on the web, look for coupons and free shipping. You can find a good deal on it. Plus, your child is so worth it and will use it for a good 4-5 years. Well, worth the investment. Honestly I don't think it is super big like some are complaining about. Fits great in my Honda civic and I have another child in a booster seat as well. Advocate in the middle, booster on the passenger side. Having the car seat in the middle is the safest. If you don't recline your seat like I do when you drive you can put it behind you. I just like to lean back while driving and since the middle is the best placement it works for us. It is the best car seat I could find and I did my research online and in person. Get it!!!!

My daughter outgrew her infant carrier by weight before she was 5 months old so we switched her to the Britax Boulevard RF. At around 14 months, she could not longer fit RF so we did FF and have never looked back. She loves the seat and I love the safety and convenience it provides. Even at 3 years old, she still falls asleep in the car; I would too if I had a seat this comfortable!

Pros:
The side Impact panels prevent her head from flopping all over the place,seat cover is easy to remove and washes great,built solid, fabric is good quality, harness easy to adjust for bulky winter coats and do not have to unhook the seat, head support easy to move up and down. Install is pretty simple once you get use to it (takes me about 2 minutes now),recline is simple, plush and very padded.

Cons: I will agree with Abigail on the EPS,its flimsy for such an important feature.. I accidentally cracked it while removing the cover to clean (called Britax and they replaced it free of charge) and the seta itself is VERY Bulky and heavy so buy another seat when you travel. Also no cup holders but maybe thats not so bad if it keeps my car clean.

Lastly,yes this seat is expensive, but well worth it for the safety and great features. I really have just minor complaints, I like the company and their costumer service and we love this seat. Would buy again in a heartbeat!

Bought this seat when my son was 1 yr old but not heavy enough to be turned around facing front (20 lbs.). He was long and leggy so I needed something bigger than what I had (something that came with a stroller).

Used the Latch and tether until he exceeded the weight limit for latch (42 lbs. according to the manual)(now using seat belt/tether as directed). Still using this seat- my son is 7 and a half. We love the harness, it protects him better! He sits higher so he can see out. The seat cover comes off and is completely washable. During the time we've had this there was a recall on the strap between the legs that tightens the shoulder straps and we received it in the mail with complete and easy to follow directions to fix.

Everything that touches your child is removable-and washable. It's a bit complicated getting it all back together. If you aren't comfortable- take the cover off and put it in the shower and hose it off....straps and all. Soap and water the juice/food/yuck stains.

Really! Bought this April 2003 and still using it (one child)! It's pristine!

I love the Marathon car seats. I have one for my oldest daughter so it was a no brainer to purchase one for our youngest. I have not put her in it yet as she is still in her infant carrier but look forward to moving her into this seat. They are so easy to install and are just an overall great seat. I own a 2009 Toyota Yaris and this is absolutely perfect.

I was stressing out a little bit because our son was "graduating" from his snap n' go type carseat and I wasn't sure I could find anything to fit in my car. He'd turned one wanted to keep him rear facing as long as we could as recommended by the AAP. This fit perfectly in my car rear facing (until my son got too tall)and forward facing. It's cushioned very nicely, my son is very comfortable and he still sleeps very easily in it and without his head flopping all around. It's sturdy and snug.

I purchased the Huntington color because of the price. Sure, it wasn't my first color choice, but it's a neutral color - and for 0 off, I was definitely willing to sacrifice color preference! It's very nice looking though, and again, very soft. I wish my own seat had the nice fabric that his does!

I purchased this seat to replace a britax roundabout that my son had grown out of. So far I haven't been disappointed. It was not as easy as the roundabout to install: because it's bigger.... I will add you MUST read the directions and your car manual BEFORE attempting to install this seat. When I first installed it I put it in our SUV, used the latch and versa teather and it was in...great! However, I decided to take it out and try it in our car and still fit great! Then read the manual for adjustment of strap instructions and found that you have to switch this block on the bottom if you are going to use it in the harness position. So had to uninstall and reinstall. When you have the block in the harness position, using latch is much more difficult to install. Britax can easily remedy this by making the latch straps about 2 inches shorter at the most. What happens is to get a tight fit you have to press down on the seat and pull the straps through the strap slots. If you try to pull them on the side you won't get a tight fit...because the belt latch things bump into the body of the seat..you have excess strap but the belt older is wedged into the body, if the straps are shorter this wouldn't happen....but even if you do this you still may not depending on your car. Either way it's an easy fix, if latch doesn't work, use the long belt path. As for the fabric, after having the cushy roundabout it is more stiff but it's for a toddler so that's ok. I really like the head support, it is easy to adjust. I like you don't have to take the straps out to adjust them except for the crotch strap. The 3 slots for the crotch strap are a bonus especially with a boy. The cupholders leave a lot to be desired but compared to other models by other brands it's nice to be able to close them when you want to. The movable armrests are nice but could use a little padding. I like the chest strap, it's easy to use and once I got used to the latch part to loosen them (compared to the button for the roundabout) that works well too. It is more difficult to loosen and tighten the chest/body straps than the roundabout but once you start using it and have it adjusted correctly it works okay..not as smooth as the roundabout but still okay. We also have a graco nautilus and I like some features of that (the lower age limit, cupholders, etc) but find the britax really just can't be beat. It is more expensive but when you are considering your child's safety it's worth it. It's heavier and feels and looks sturdier and comes preassembled so at least you have some peace of mind it's put together correctly. Overall good seat...but I will miss my beloved roundabout!

I would highly recommend this seat for newborns/infants and toddlers who are slimmer/lankier than most other kids.

My first child had the Eddie Bauer seats, and I was always bothered that when he slept, after facing the seat forward, his head would always droop forward. So, with my second I was determined to get this nicer seat. I was so glad I did up until now (28 months). My daughter starts screaming and struggling to get out after about 10 minutes. She's a normal sized baby - not overweight or underweight - but now that she's getting bigger, the straps seem to bother her to no end. They seem to be too tight at her neck. Also, the seat doesn't sit fully upright. It has 2 settings and neither one sits her in a normal upright position, which I think also bothers her. Perhaps if she was a skinnier kid like her older brother.

I LOVED the seat for her as an infant - it was super easy to install and didn't budge - even with the bulkiness of it. But, now, unfortunately, I'm going to have to sell it and put her her older brother's Cosco/Eddie Bauer seats!

Also, the seat cover and straps have been washed numerous times and still look brand new. But, it is quite tricky to clean the "undercarriage" nooks and crannies.

We have two kids now and like our Graco Duoglider Stroller, Sterling, but there are times when we don't want to deal with the double stroller, when we have just one kid with us, or when the toddler insists on walking or the baby insists on being carried. In those instances, we relied on our Graco Quattro Tour Sport Travel System in Boone (we actually had the now-retired Castleton pattern). But I never liked it -- it was too bulky and unwieldy. Honestly, I liked our double stroller better than the Quattro single!

Enter the Britax Chaperone. WOW, is this thing ever light and maneuverable! I felt like it I could corner on a dime when pushing this thing. My toddler LOVES pushing it around and actually pushed the baby along (with a little guidance from Mom!) when we went for a walk the other day with no problems at all.

I did not find the Chaperone particularly easy to set up. I'm not the world's handiest person, but I can usually muddle through just fine. The photos in the manual were pretty unclear, I thought -- maybe color pictures or line drawings would have been better. However, it was not impossible, and I managed OK in the end.

The Chaperone has tons of features that I really like: It stands up by itself when folded. And it's EASY to fold, too! The handle can be raised (nice for me, as I'm 5'10") or lowered (see aforementioned toddler who likes to push the stroller). The footrest can be raised, if you like. The canopy can be locked in place. And the buckles are very easy to use -- not at all like the fiddly ones on the Graco strollers.

The non-washable cover is a potential problem ... but honestly, I've never had to wash the covers on either of our other strollers. I don't give my kids messy foods to eat in the stroller. And if your baby is in the phase where diaper blowouts are still a big problem, he or she is probably still little enough to be riding in the infant seat.

We didn't try the travel system, as our youngest is almost 1 and too big for the Chaperone infant seat. We do have the Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat Onyx, though, and are extremely happy with it. If we do have another baby, I think we'll probably get the Cowmooflage infant seat to match the stroller, as I'm so happy with it, and with our other Britax car seats.

That said ... this is a pricey stroller. If you're on a budget, the Graco MetroLite Stroller, Rittenhouse is a nice, light choice, according to friends I know who have it.

So far I love this car seat and so does my son. He is still sitting facing backwards waiting to turn one. He is a large boy, and I needed to upgrade him from his infant seat at a little over six months of age. He was much happier in his new car seat than his little infant seat. He is currently about 10 months old, is 31 inches tall and weighs about 23.5 lbs. While he is still content to look backwards, I'm sure he will be happier to face forward. The belts are easy to use and it fits just fine in my vehicle, which is an SUV. I have not had any problems with the diaper area being too tight as mentioned in several other reviews of the same product without the Nebraska logo. All in all a great seat!

The 4 & 3/4:
I bought this car seat, like many other people, because it is top of the line here in the states. I am a very frugal person, so dropping 0 something on a car seat is very uncharacteristic of me. However, there are things you skimp on: hand me down clothes, second had toys, etc. The safety of my child just wasn't one of those things. This car seat is miles ahead of the infant carrier car seat we had when my daughter was first born. Being frugal, before my daughter was born, I bought infant carrier car seat because it came with a stroller it connected with. My daughter out grew the weight & height requirement by the time she turned 10 months old. For what I spent on that car seat, vs what I spend on the Britax and how long it will last her, I feel like I got ripped off on the earlier car seat. Not only did she out grow it quickly, but it was complicated to snap her in, and although I had it latched down and had the seat belt through it and ratcheted tight, it still moved when I went over bumps.

Going from that to our now installed Britax was night and day. It is so easy to get her in and out of this, there are even little velcro patches on the sides that you can stick the straps to to get her in and out easier. The Clicking system is great for knowing when it's just snug enough, I find that it takes between 2-3 clicks to have it snug enough, but it's reassuring to hear the clicks (it's also great for her grandparents). My daughter is still rear facing and I really like that it has a rebound strap that connects to the floor. I also like that she will be able to remain rear facing until she is 35 pounds, all the safer for her. I don't think I will ever buy anything but Britax again.

The 1/4 star left off:

(Note: I don't list expenses as a con, because I feel like I have gotten what I paid for)

1.) It was difficult to install in the rear facing position. We had a car seat check done (I would HIGHLY recommend this, these people put in a lot of hours to learn how to keep our kids strapped in safe and properly, and their services are free! It's worth 30 minutes out of your Saturday), and we had done it mostly right, but even the car seat tech had a bit hard time getting it into just the right position (She also raved about the Britax car seat and told us advantages about it we were unaware of).

2.) The seat - although it doesn't move a smidgen left to right (love that) - actually slips down towards the back of the seat of the car making my daughter more reclined back (I hope that made sense). I think this is because of the angle of our leather seats. Kind of annoying, but quick and easy to scooch it back into place.

3.) This thing is big. And takes up A LOT of room. I can't see this fitting in a smaller car rear facing. It just barely fits rear facing in our Sequoia in the center spot (I know it wouldn't fit behind the seats with them pushed all the way back - my hubby and I are both 6 ft+, so that's a bit of a downer if we had to have her on the side).For that reason, and the difficulty of installing it rear facing initially (I think I could do it okay again on my own, I just don't want to mess with it), I have never taken this car seat out of the car, instead I always offer to drive. Because again A) it's a little tricky to install (mostly because it is so big) and B) It is SO BIG :).

That being said, I really love this car seat and feel so good about having made this purchase and have recommend it to friends and family. I love knowing that my little one is safe, secure, and pretty darn cozy in her car seat.

I have 2 different Britax seats and I love and hate both of them for the same reasons. They are safe. They are soft. They sit higher than most car seats, which my kids love, because they can see further. They are easy to adjust for height, and they have a broad weight range which can save you buying multiple car seats as your child ages (and having to store them for later). These seats don't "expire" for a full 6 years, at which time you will still only be able to use it mostly for one child, because if you have another in that time, you'll need a different seat for them. However, in those 6 years you may have purchased 3-4 other seats for each stage of weight/development.

The 3 outstanding negatives to me are these...

The thing is HUGE and HEAVY. It is a pain in the derrier to transfer from one vehicle to another.
There is no LAP BAR for smaller children. This is a drawback in my opinion because it's a good place to strap toys to keep little ones occupied. My solution was to buy a lap bench/tray, but the seat is so high that most of the trays don't work adequately without falling off.
The click/lock feature isn't all that great. Quite frankly, the click isn't that loud. I certainly wouldn't have noticed it if it weren't touted heavily on the packaging.
The price. If I hadn't received these as a "gif" from Amazon, I wouldn't have seriously considered the price, especially after having already purchased several other seats.

The outstanding positives are...

Safety and comfort, hands down. These are very cushy and the head supports actually support a childs' head. No more dangling necks in the back seat.
Height. My kids love that they can see out all the car windows in these seats, espcially in the van.
The weight range adaptability. I wish I had gotten these BEFORE I bought all those other seats, but now I can get rid of the rest instead of shuffling them around in the storage area.
No threading of the seat belt. It adjusts quite simply with a turn dial, which is awesome.
No movement. These truly stay in place, even without the tether strap. They are the most secure of all the seats I have used from multiple brands.

Overall, if you are fortunate enough to come across this seat as your first purchase, it is well worth the money that you will save on multiple seats, and the hassle. If your main concern is safety, it is also a good investment. If you already have good seats and this is a budget burden, you're on your own.

We just installed the car seat into the car last night. And the only thing that was tricky about it was that I forgot at first to pull up the straps from the middle. But then I remembered the reviews here and the seat was the easiest one I've installed for convertible car seats (the only easier seat that we've purchased was the chicco keyfit).

My daughter absolutely loves to sit in it and it's very easy to adjust and get her firmly strapped in. It's best to remember to pull the latch straps through the middle. That was the only "difficulty" I experienced. But compared to the Eddie Bauer convertible, this one is super easy.

I'm gonna give back by writing a review. This is a new product and I couldn't wait for it to be released. I ordered this but was wary as I hadn't heard anything, couldn't find a review, and was going merely on faith. I love my Cowmooflage Chaperone Carseat and I hoped I would love this stroller just as much.

Jackpot! I love this stroller, flat out simple as that. I will admit that I am a Mamma to 5 and I have never had a travel system....so perhaps I am enchanted with that fact alone.... but I just love this stroller regardless. I feel like everything was well thought out... made well and I have no complaints. The stroller is full size... comparable to the size of the Inglesina Zippy which I loved when I owned one. I love the Cowmooflage fabric.

The stroller has an articulating handle which is great because I'm tall... I kick the back of almost every stroller I've ever used (even the ones that are made for tall people).... but I am able to walk behind the Chaperone just fine... YIPPPEE!

The stroller has a true one hand fold... Same exact concept as the Baby Jogger City Mini... Pull the center tab at the seat and Voila... closes... It works well. The canopy/shade isn't as full sized as I would like but is certainly adequate. The Baby Jogger Mini has a bigger canopy which I love.

I thought the wheels were plastic... so I was concerned about that... but they are not... They have a rubber tire like feel and so ride smoothly... even on the street and some of the trails behind our house resulted in a very smooth ride. The stroller moves fantastically and is able to be pushed with one hand.... I actually navigated this stroller in addition to a [...] shopping cart full of food quite easily (one cart with each hand)...

The underbasket is quite generous. There is a child tray (but can be used without) and also a parent tray, which is quite useful (room for two drinks and a compartment for keys/cell phone etc..).

The wheels pop off quite easily if needed... foot rest articulates for a child quite nicely.

The matching baby car seat pops in so easily... like a dream! It has a very creative mechanism and I'm not sure I could adequately describe how it works... other than I really like it and have no complaints whatsoever... An adapter strap is included with the stroller for other car seats which are compatible.

I absolutely love the foot brake which can be set by pushing down and is also released by pushing down... just like the brake in our minivan... I love not having to try to pull up on the brake with the top of my toes which always results in a sore toe! My only complaint thus far has been when I accidently kicked the brake while walking and accidently engaged the brake... not a biggie...

I'll update later if I think of anything... so far... I am in love!

My daughter and I love this car seat. I found it easy to install and it fits well rear facing in my Grand Prix. Even with my husband driving with the drivers seat in the farthest back position. The bottom leg strap is a little snug and is why I only gave it a 4 star rating. I am worried that by 60 lbs the leg strap will be to uncomfortable. There is a nice padded piece around the strap to help prevent pinching. I was also worried that my daughter would not like the True Side Impact Protection. This has not been an issue. I have the confidence of knowing my daughter is in one of the safest car seats available.

Well after doing much research, and listening to the ladies on my messageboard talk great about this seat...I decided to give this a try. Before i bought this product, I went to BRU and actually tried the demonstration models out in our vehicle to see if they fit properly. I recommend doing this with any seat. We had to raise the headrest in our Windstar to get this seat to fit forward facing, but my son is rearfacing, and he will be rearfacing until he reaches the max wieght for his safety. OMG--this seat is sooo soo comfortable. I love the adjuster on it, and the neck cushions. Obviously the Cow-Mooflage pattern is FUN and everyone gets a kick out of it:) I cant say enough about this. My son is a petite lil guy(he's 15months now) and I'm assuming this seat will be used until the expiration date.(6years). I cant say enough about buying it through amazon. Great service, I got it cheaper w/coupon code and free shipping, no tax, and It came with 5 days of ordering.. Wow thats fast. I highly recommend this seat, and recommend buying from amazon. Oh, it is easy to install, but I highly recommend taking to your local certified car seat inspector for installation.

There are also four adjustable height positions so the seat grows with baby. A patented "floating" HUGS™ (Harness Ultra Guard) system better distributes the webbing loads, reducing head movement and minimizing harness irritation on baby's neck in case of an impact. HUGS also reduces the chance of improperly positioning the chest clip.

Located near a vehicle's seatbelts, factory installed anchor points provide a secure and easy LATCH connection. In conjunction with this push-button release system, the Marathon also offers Britax's Versa-Tether®, an anchor aid that provides additional security in the forward facing position for children weighing more than 50 lbs. The Versa-Tether® fastens the top of the car seat to factory installed automobile anchor points, minimizing the possibility of a head injury.

The Marathon can also be safely used in cars without the LATCH system.

Need more? The Marathon provides built-in lock-off clips that keep the seat tightly in place when using only traditional seatbelts at installation. A simple handle pull allows the car seat base to be easily reclined when rear-facing. A smooth ride is guaranteed for baby through the comfy padding and soft fabric cover, which is stain resistant, removable, and washable. The Marathon is Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 213 compliant, making it approved for airplane use as well.

It should be noted that the Marathon is larger (28"H x 19.5"W x 25"D) than most car seats, and can be a tricky fit, especially in the rear facing position in a smaller car. Allow for 31" of backseat space to properly accommodate this model. With its bigger size this car seat is also heavier than many. Completely empty the Marathon weighs nearly 18 pounds. But these same features are what allow the car seat to have a higher weight capacity and therefore last well into childhood.

A simple handle pull allows the car seat base to be reclined when rear-facing.

Since car seats are mandated by law, it's nice to know that Britax is at least making the choice simple for you. The Marathon is easy to install, super comfortable for baby, available in a wide range of colors and patterns, and, most importantly, safe!

Comparing Britax Car Seats
If you're debating between the Britax Marathon and the Britax Roundabout, think of the latter as the little sibling. They are identical in comfort and convenience features, but the Marathon has a higher weight maximum, and is therefore larger than the Roundabout.
The Britax Decathlon is also similar to the Marathon, but offers two features you might need. First, the Decathlon offers additional padding for newborns with an infant positioning system, giving more peace of mind to first time parents. Britax Frontier Booster Car Seat Rushmore Review

We owned two Britax car seats prior to the Frontier and were really happy with both. I read the reviews here and was concerned about the difficult and sometimes impossible installation being described. We almost opted for another less expensive but hassle-free brand and model. In the end we decided to give the Frontier a try because of its safety features and our previous experience.

Here is how my installation experience breaks down in my 07 Acura MDX: 5 minutes to review the manual, 5 minutes to install without difficulty, 5 minutes to adjust and check. The other reviews recommending reading the manual are right on. If you follow the simple instructions, there is no problem. In fact, if you try to install this seat without closely following directions, you may install it incorrectly creating a possible safety issue.

My only issue with this seat, which may be applicable to other seats, is that the head rest is so tall that it obstructs my view out of the back window when the Fronter is installed in the center of the back seat. Moving the seat to one of the side seats should solve this.

Britax Roundabout 50 Convertible Car Seat - Onyx Review

After doing much research on Britax seats I decided this was the seat for us. I have been told it was made with the shell of the Marathon stripped down. I would best describe it as a stripped down Decathlon (which is made from teh same shell as the Marathon). It is a very affordable, safe seat to use with a child.

Pros of this seat:

**The seat pad is nice and cushioned. Baby loved the seat.
**Just like the Decathlon, this seat has a 3 position crotch belt placement (Marathon does not have this).
**Reclines FFing upto 33lbs. I have been told Britax do not recline FFing but in the manual it does state a FFing recline up to 33lbs. At 33lbs it needs to be in the straightback position. My 2.5yo is just about to hit 30lbs.
**A lot of room for growth. I placed my 2.5yo in this seat and he has 2 more harness slots before outgrowing the seat.
**Affordable. Even though it is only missing a couple features (**see minor cons**, this approx -over 0 cheaper than their higher priced models

Cons:
**Can't be used with an infant. The shoulder harness slots must be at or below their shoulders to be used properly. With this seat my 4mo (approx 28") is about an inch shorter than the shortest slots. We still have an infant carrier that he has about 5" before outgrowing.

Minor Cons: These are things the Marathon and Decathlon have, which makes this seat stripped down version.

**No HUGS. Not a big deal for me. They just ensure the chest clip is level with the armpits and not at the belly.
**No shoulder pads. Technically using the shoulder pads from the store that many use void the warranty of the seat, and the straps are a little rough.
** No seatbelt lock off. This Britax does not have it built in, but does come with a locking clip. I have used the locking clip in the past and have no problem using it. If you use LATCH, then you won't need either until your child reaches 40lbs.
**Harnesses to 50lbs and not 65lbs. Again not a problem. My 6yo weighs 40lbs. Most kids outgrow the Marathon and Decathlon heightwise before they reach the 65lbs. So this seat is very practical.

I have never owned or used a Britax product before but have heard nothing but great things about them. After receiving this, installing it and using it, I like it very much. I'm not entirely convinced that I would ever spend this much money on one of these myself but if I'd had the money to buy one when my daughter was first born, I very well might have (had I had the money). I hate to put a price tag on my child's safety and well-being but some people (myself included) simply do not always have this much money to spend, despite the quality of the car seat and all that it offers. I originally purchased an Evenflo convertible car seat for less than a third of this Britax's cost and while it has plenty of downsides, it was what I was forced to go with due to our budget.

Here are some pros and cons to the Britax that I see as they apply to me and my situation, my observations, and my preferences.

PROs:
- Luxuriously soft, velvety material lines the entire seat
- Extremely sturdy construction
- Pads on belts by child's neck to prevent rubbing or possible injuries from contact with belt
- Nifty placement of latch belts behind seat (instead of coming from one spot at the top, they come from two places on either side for better stability
- Has small velcro strips to the sides to hold the belts in place away from the seat of the chair when unbuckled so when the child sits down, he/she won't be sitting ON the belts (LOVE that feature!)
- Nest-like for small babies

CONs:
- Insanely expensive
- No cup holders
- Does not convert into booster seat

I suppose those last ones are either subjective and relative (expense), entirely dependent upon your own preferences (cup holders), or nit-picky (booster seat), but those were seriously the only things I could say even remotely negative about the seat. Of course, you will pay more for any car seat that converts into a booster so price ranges have to be taken into account. However, if you buy this at the time the baby is born and begin using it right away, you will get at least 5 years of use out of it and it will be well worth it.

(But really, for 0 couldn't they have added just one cup holder?)

I have never owned a Britax before, and I have never used LATCH because it always seems so complicated, although I know it is much safer than a seatbelt. When I ordered this product, it came very quickly, within a week. The material of the car seat is much nicer than in photos, it's actually a velour material. When I pulled it out of the box, I could just tell that it was well made. The car seat was very thick and sturdy, very soft as well. You can tell it was a well made car seat. I read from other reviews it is very easy to use with LATCH, and never using it before, I was leary, however, it truly is VERY EASY to install with LATCH. We only bought 1 because my daughter's old car seat was broken, but comparing it to my son's next to her's, her Britax Marathon is taller, thicker, more secure, and it does not move an inch when I try to wiggle it. This is the safest, most comfortable car seat I have ever seen. I will definitely be buying my son one asap. It also keeps the kids in the harness for 65 lbs, which is really nice. The only negative is that there is no cup holder, but definitely the safest, easiest to install car seat I have ever purchased.
